Being an eastern state of the country, Bihar has a history to be portrayed in terms of its culture, festivals, literature, education histories, etc…

Bihar has seen a vast development in the categories of education, economy, industrial growth, manufacturing sectors, etc… and now it’s been looked as a potential ground for manufacturing sectors, education, which has made the government to invest in the state, seeking enhancements in the GDP.

Education

Bihar is the only state in India with ancient histories of educational reforms activities, which could be dated back to the period of 450 CE and 783 AD. During these years the ancient universities such as, the ‘Nalanda’ and ‘Vikramashila’ university have been established and the universities did flourish as the successful learning centers not only to the citizens in India, but also to people across the world. Unfortunately these universities were ruined and lost, during the war times of the medieval periods. But, the strong foundation of education was not lost and still Bihar flourishes in education and when the most prestigious educational institutions, such as the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) were established in the capital city of Bihar, namely the Patna, then Bihar automatically started flourishing in the education sector. As a result many educational institutions, such as BIT Mesra, Prince of Wales Medical College, Bihar School of Engineering, etc… had been established in Bihar. Many renowned institutions in the country such as AIIMS, NITs, IITs, and IIMs … have started to receive greater percentage of good representation from Bihar, this has made the government to realize the educational potential in the state and hence, the government has also started investing in the development of educational sectors in Bihar.

Economy

Though Bihar has suffered as the state of poor economic conditions, poor growth in the manufacturing sectors, etc… in the country, its recent GDP growth has accounted to around 18% which was a drastic improvement from the range of 5.1% in the year 1999 to 2005. This major growth is due to growth of manufacturing sectors, service sectors, and establishment of major educational institutions in the state, especially in the city of Patna, has led to the vast development of the state in terms of its GDP growth. Many IT organizations have started to establish their centers in the city of Patna, as a result, the real estate in the state too have seen a tremendous growth.

Festivals

Being a land with ancient heritage in culture, education and politics, Bihar also joins its hands in the category of festivals, which is quite popular for its festivals, as it bear a unique ancient routes and histories. One of the major ancient festivals celebrated in Bihar is called as the ‘Chhath’, also called as ‘Dala Chhath’ and is celebrated twice a year, one during the summer time and the other during the week of ‘Diwali’. This festival is dedicated to the Sun God and is followed by fasting for the entire day without even drinking water. Another significant ritual observance, celebrated as a holy festival is the ‘Shravani Mela’, which is celebrated in the lunar month of July-August. This festival is celebrated by linking the towns of ‘Sultanganj’ and ‘Deoghar’. Apart from this, many local festivals such as, ‘Teej’ and ‘Chitragupta Puja’ are quite popular in Bihar.
